Snohomish Malarkey Legacy Shingle Roof Replacement — Midnight Black

Pinnacle Roofing Professionals recently completed this roof replacement in unincorporated Snohomish, Washington, for a homeowner whose existing roof was failing due to an improper original installation. The new roof features Malarkey Legacy® shingles in Midnight Black, installed to manufacturer specification so the home is protected the way it should have been from the start.

Project Overview

Location: Unincorporated City of Snohomish, Snohomish County, WA

Roofing Material: Malarkey Legacy® shingles in Midnight Black

Project Type: Residential roof replacement (full removal of the failing prior roof)

Project Duration: Approximately four days

Contractor: Pinnacle Roofing Professionals, LLC

The Challenge: A Failing Prior Installation

The original installers used the wrong nail pattern when the previous roof was installed, and the result was leaks throughout the roof. What should have been years of reliable protection instead became an ongoing problem for the homeowner.

Nailing pattern is not a minor detail — it is fundamental to how a shingle roof performs. When shingles are not fastened correctly:

  • Water intrusion: Improperly nailed shingles can lift, shift, or fail to seal, creating pathways for water to reach the underlayment and roof deck.
  • Wind-uplift risk: Shingles that are under-nailed, over-nailed, or nailed in the wrong location are far more vulnerable to being torn loose in Pacific Northwest windstorms.
  • Compromised warranty coverage: Manufacturer warranties typically require installation to published specifications — an incorrect nail pattern can put that coverage at risk.

For this Snohomish homeowner, the only lasting fix was to replace the failing roof and install the new one correctly.

The Solution: A Corrective Re-Roof, Done Right This Time

Our crew fully removed the failing roof and installed a new Malarkey Legacy® roofing system in Midnight Black, fastened to the manufacturer’s specified nailing pattern — done right this time.

Malarkey Legacy is a premium laminated architectural shingle backed by a strong manufacturer warranty, making it a solid choice for homes in Snohomish and the surrounding Snohomish County area.

The Scope: What This Project Included

Beyond the new Malarkey Legacy® shingle system, this replacement included upgrades that protect the home for the long run:

  • Damaged decking replaced with new CDX plywood — The leaks from the failing prior installation had compromised sections of the roof deck. The damaged plywood was removed and replaced with new exterior-grade CDX plywood sheathing, giving the new Malarkey Legacy roof a solid, sound foundation to fasten into.
  • Ridge vent installed — A new ridge vent provides exhaust ventilation at the peak of the roof, allowing hot, moist air to escape the attic rather than being trapped beneath the shingles.
  • Increased intake ventilation — Intake ventilation was increased to balance the ventilation system. Balanced intake and exhaust helps protect the attic by reducing moisture buildup and supports shingle longevity in the Pacific Northwest’s wet climate.
  • Skylight replacement — Four old, failing skylights were removed and replaced with new CrystaLite skylights. Aging skylights are a common source of roof leaks, so the new units were installed properly integrated and flashed with the new roofing system.
  • New 6-inch K-style gutters with 3×4 downspouts — The home received new 6-inch K-style gutters fitted with oversized 3×4 downspouts. The larger downspouts move more water than standard 5-inch systems, helping handle the heavy rainfall Snohomish homes see through the year.

Results & Customer Outcome

  • The failing, leak-prone roof has been replaced with a correctly installed Malarkey Legacy system.
  • The home is now protected by shingles fastened to manufacturer specification.
  • Midnight Black gives the home a clean, modern look.
